Established Galvanizing Process

Understand the hot-dip galvanizing process and its evolution

Established Galvanizing Process

1) Preparation
Articles are first inspected before being tied to suitable jigs.
2) Degreasing
Alkaline Solution Nach
Degreasing (Caustic Soda Degreasing).
The Steel Structure is dipped in hot caustic soda bath until it is clean off oil and other organic material.
3) Rinse Water
After Degreasing
Rinsing. To prevent alkaline from reacting with pickling solution, preventing unnecesary acid waste.
4) Pickling
Cold Hydrochloric
Pickling or scale removal (Hydrochloric Acid).
The steel structure is dipped in Acid Bath to remove surface rust and light mill scale to produce a clean metalic surface. Pickling time is dependent on condition of the articles.
5) Rinse Water
After Pickling
Rinsing. Removal of pickling acid and Residues (iron salt)
6) Pre-Flux
Zinc Ammonium Chloride (80'c - 100'c)
Pre-fluxing. The cleaned steel structure is dipped in hot flux solution. (Zinc Ammonium Chloride). The flux solution removes the oxide film which forms on the highly reactive steel surface after acid cleaning and prevents further oxidation. Ensures that the steel surface is chemically clean before its immersion in molten zinc.
7) Galvanizing Bath
SHG 99.995 Percent Zinc
Molten Zinc 445'C - 450'C
Hot Dip Galvanizing. The dried steel structure is dipped in Molten Zinc Bath (445'C - 450'C). On immersion, the steel structure is wetted by the molten zinc/ zinc iron ally layer on its surface. The period of immersion depends solely on size and weight of the articles.
8) Quenching
Quenching. The structure is dipped in sodium dichromate / water. Zinc / iron alloy solidifies at the surface when chilled in water. Passivation of the zinc surface to prevent early oxidation.
9) Finishing
Inspection and Touch-Up
i) All materials will be transferred to the De-Racking for inspection.
ii) Removal of sharp edges.
iii) Inspection of all bare spots.
10) Finishing
Final QC Inspection & Testing is carried out using special instrucment to ensure compliance to required specifications.
11) Loading
Articles are carefully sorted out in accordance to customers' item lists before loading to ensure complete delivery.
12) Transportation
Great care is exercised to prevent damage to the galvanized articles during the loading process, and during transportation to customer premise.
